A Wild Week of 2K18 Cover Reveals!

Last week was BIG for the Class of 2K18! We had not one but FOUR cover reveals! To celebrate, we are sharing the covers below and including each author's reaction when they first saw their final image.

Cindy Baldwin - WHERE THE WATERMELONS GROW (July 3, 2018)

Getting to see my book's cover was something I'd been dreaming about for years before I even got an agent! I was so excited, but also nervous, because I'd noticed that most of my author friends were surprised by their covers at first at many contradicted the author's vision for their book. Because my book is kind of emotionally intense, deals with tough topics, and is set on a farm that I like to think is somewhat idyllically described, I'd kind of figured that my cover design would be something muted and a little somber, with pastels or darker shades as the primary colors. I was COMPLETELY surprised when I opened my e-mail in February to find the incredibly gorgeous cover for WHERE THE WATERMELONS GROW, designed by HarperCollins genius Erin Fitzsimmons. It was so lush, vibrant, and lyrical—absolutely different than what I had expected, but also absolutely capturing the heart and soul of my heat-stricken watermelon-infused story. When I got the final version, with the tagline, a couple of weeks ago, I cried actual tears at seeing the tagline I'd written sitting over the title I'd chosen. It's one of the most beautiful book covers I could have imagined, and I like to think that my watermelon-obsessed heroine, Della, would love it just as much as I do!

Now available for pre-order on Amazon or B&N.

Caryn Lix - SANCTUARY (July 24, 2018)

I'd heard a lot of horror stories about people hating their covers and I was SO NERVOUS to see mine. Imagine my relief when I saw that the artist had captured everything about my book perfectly: the claustrophobia, the isolation, the darkness. I couldn't have been more excited. It made everything about the book real to me!

Lauren Spieller - YOUR DESTINATION IS ON THE LEFT (June 26, 2018)

I am so excited that I finally get to share the cover of Your Destination is on the Left with the world! I was blown away when I first saw my cover. The setting, the colors, the fact that it's in a frame on a wall--it's all perfect (in fact, you'll have to read to find out just how perfect it really is!).   Fun Fact: when I visited Santa Fe recently, I was able to visit the exact spot on the cover! In fact, here's a picture of me standing in front of The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi! (Forgive my slouchy attire--much like my nomadic main character, Dessa, I'd been on the road for hours!)

Amy Trueblood - NOTHING BUT SKY (March 27, 2018)

I think the correct word to use when I first saw my finished cover was SURREAL. I'd been waiting for this moment for so long, and to be honest, I was terrified to open the email with the final image. In fact, I texted a bunch of my writer friends and asked them to give me the courage to open it. After a few amazing messages, I clicked on the icon and the image appeared and I started to cry. The designers at Flux created an image beyond my wildest dreams and I am incredibly thankful!
